Q: Every time I fill the gas tank of my 240 I have to live with an eye-watering gas smell, what gives?

A: You have one or more leaking gas tank vent hoses. Depending on the month and year of the manufacture, your 240 can have as many as 5 vent hoses. After 25 or more years of service these hoses became porous resulting in the problem described.

The best way to address this malady is to remove the fuel tank and replace all of the vent and fuel hoses. This is an excellent time to have a professional install a liner in your tank.I also strongly suggest replacing the fuel filler neck while the tank is out.
